The Web is an archival research project focusing on the legendary gay bar The Web. Opened during early 1990s to 2010s, The Web is the first known gay bar in New York created specifically for Asian queer men. Curated by Xiaojing Zhu and me, this exhibition revisits its legacy through archival photographs, a partial recreation Referring to the bar’s interior, and a zine designed by Yang Sun. The zine feature imagery from the archive and a central interview between the lead artist Yukai Chen, the renowed artist and The Web’s mural painter Danqing Chen, and The Web’s founder Alan Chow, offering personal insight into The Web’s community impact and cultural significance.
